Scalloped Edges and Deep Shadow Lines

Most asphalt shingles read as flat, straight rows. Carriage House doesn't. Its cut-away corners and deep shadow lines create the scalloped silhouette of a slate roof, the kind you see on Victorian and Colonial Revival homes in older Central Ohio neighborhoods. The oversized exposure and dark shadow lines make the pattern legible from the street, which is exactly the point of a designer shingle.

Because the shingle is built from two full-size laminated layers, the finished roof has real physical depth, not just a printed pattern. Colors in the line include Black Pearl, Brownstone, Colonial Slate, and Georgian Brick.

Steep Victorian, Colonial, and Tudor Roofs

Carriage House belongs on homes where the roof is a major part of the architecture: steeply pitched Victorians, Colonials, and Tudors in Bexley, Upper Arlington, and Worthington, and high-end custom builds in New Albany. It also suits owners who plan to stay in the house for years.

Its UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating is the highest class in the test. If you love the look but want a different silhouette, compare it with Grand Manor and Belmont below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Class 4 impact rating actually mean?

UL 2218 is the industry impact test for roofing: steel balls are dropped onto the shingle from set heights. Class 4 is the highest classification: the shingle withstands the largest impact without cracking.

How is Carriage House different from Grand Manor?

Both are CertainTeed luxury slate-look shingles. Carriage House is defined by its scalloped, hand-crafted cut and carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating; Grand Manor is CertainTeed's flagship multi-layer slate look with a different tab profile. If you want the slate aesthetic, the choice usually comes down to which silhouette suits your home's architecture. We bring samples of both to your estimate.

Who handles the manufacturer coverage on my shingles?

Manufacturer warranties are provided and administered by CertainTeed. Ask us which CertainTeed warranty applies to your roof, and see the full terms on CertainTeed's warranty page.
