A Thick, Dimensional Slate Profile

Belmont's color palette runs to deep blacks and grays and rich browns, shades like Black Granite, Colonial Slate, Shenandoah, Stonegate Gray, and Weathered Wood, laid over a thick, dimensional tab that throws real shadows. The effect from the curb is a quarried-stone roof, the kind historically reserved for homes with the structure to carry actual slate.

Because it is asphalt, a Belmont roof does not need the structural reinforcement or specialty slate crew a real slate roof needs.

Steep, Visible Rooflines

Belmont belongs on steeply pitched, highly visible rooflines, the kind you see on larger Colonials and Tudors in Upper Arlington and Bexley, and on custom builds in New Albany and Dublin where the roof can be a third of the home's visible exterior. It's aimed at owners who plan to stay and want the roof to be a permanent design feature.

Like Carriage House and Grand Manor, it carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest class in the test. If you prefer a scalloped, old-world silhouette over Belmont's straight-edged slate dimension, compare it with Carriage House below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Class 4 impact rating actually mean?

UL 2218 is the industry impact test for roofing: steel balls are dropped onto the shingle from set heights. Class 4 is the highest classification: the shingle withstands the largest impact without cracking.

How is Belmont different from Carriage House?

Both are CertainTeed slate-look shingles with a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, and both carry the same manufacturer warranty stack. The difference is the silhouette: Belmont has straight-edged, deeply dimensional tabs that mimic quarried slate blocks, while Carriage House has a scalloped, hand-crafted cut with old-world character. We bring samples of both so you can see which suits your home's architecture.

Who handles the manufacturer coverage on my shingles?

Manufacturer warranties are provided and administered by CertainTeed. Ask us which CertainTeed warranty applies to your roof, and see the full terms on CertainTeed's warranty page.

Landmark, NorthGate, ClimateFlex, Solaris, Max Def, StreakFighter, SureStart, Presidential, Grand Manor, Carriage House, Highland Slate, and Belmont are trademarks of CertainTeed.
